SOMEthing
to THINK about

The
first European settlers in the New World (America) were partly
Puritans, grass-roots Protestants, who migrated to practise their
strict beliefs, without the hinder and repression of the Anglican and
Protestant churches.
Satan
was their main opponent. The Devil deluded believers and led them
astray and into sin. Women were especially vulnerable for his charmes
and practised withcraft to enhance the power of Lucifer, the
Lightbringer.
In
1692, in the town of Salem (Mass.) a period of mass-hysteria and
panic broke out. A couple of girls got into trance repeatedly, even
in church, and accused some of the citizens of witchcraft and
alliance with the Devil.
The
girls had their first success when a Carribean housemaid confessed
and was brought to death.
The
“Salem Witch Hunt or Witch Trals” lasted only a couple of months.
In that short period 150 man and woman were accused of witchcraft. 19
of them were either hanged or crushed. 17 died in prison (Torture).
The
jury who convicted all these Satanists later apologised. They blamed
Satan for their actions.
